Custom Trophies

Trophies are mementoes to be treasured forever. They could be awarded for certain accomplishments, or a memento of membership, or a souvenir from an event.

Trophies as awards are especially common for scholastic, sporting and office achievements. Academic awards are given in the form of trophies for different classes and subject proficiencies. Trophies for sporting achievements are the most popular. Games like tennis, football, basketball, cricket and golf all have coveted trophies. No one can forget the pictures of sportsmen weeping with joy and clutching their hard-earned trophies.

Trophies are sometimes given for achieving business targets or for attending training programs. They are also given to members of elite clubs and organizations.

Trophies can be different in make and design. Some companies offer custom trophies, which are exclusively designed trophies for particular events, people and occasions. For example, the Oscar is custom-made for the Oscar awards.

Materials to choose from include glass and crystal, plastic, acrylic, resin, enamel, and metals like pewter, gold or silver. The design is left to the imagination of the client. Traditional trophies offer a cup-based design. Some rare designs include bobble heads, resin sports jerseys or Rolls-Royce grilles.

A baseball trophy has a ball or a player pitching the ball, all in metal, or a sports jersey or a baseball-player bobble-head with custom-made engravings. Golf trophies have the figure of a golfer teeing away, or a golf ball, or a golf kit. Soccer trophies have soccer balls with customized engravings, or a goalie or player in action.

Customization enables one to make a trophy unique and valuable. Often it is not the cost that is important, but the ingenuity of the design. The trophy with the shape of a Rolls Royce grille was custom-made for the Rolls Royce owner’s club. There are many such models of custom trophies of all shapes, sizes and designs to win your heart.

Why Is Barry Bonds Stuck At 713 Home Runs?

I hope this article becomes obsolete tomorrow, and it’s possible, because Barry Bonds only needs one homer to tie Baba Ruth’s 714.

But it seems Bonds has been stuck at 713 for the longest time.

It makes you wonder why.

Sure, Dodger Brad Penny walked him, intentionally, and that didn’t help. And that pesky Cubs outfielder robbed Bonds of that shot that would have cleared the wall but for the extended glove and that last gasp leap.

But you have to wonder, is Barry’s bat being thwarted by that killjoy, Bud Selig, who said Major League Baseball wouldn’t go out of its way to commemorate Barry’s impending milestone?

Is this famous tough guy, whose body armor can deflect speeding baseballs, becoming a softie, suddenly, while on the threshold of matching the mighty Bambino?

I hope not.

It’s painful for fans to see him sputtering when he should be streaking.

I happen to like Bonds for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that for the longest time he has been his own man. Earning some of the worst P.R. in all of sports, he has still performed, whether “juiced” or not.

So, let’s get to 714, and then 755, and beyond, where no man has ever gone before!

A Bet You ALWAYS Win - How Sports Betting Arbitrage Works

Betting arbitrage is a method of creating a bet that has a zero risk - in other words, you always win! The concept of ‘arbitrage’ comes from the financial world, and describes the activities of traders who find two different places offering the same trade, but at different prices. They then exploit this difference by selling in one location and buying in the other. Whatever happens to price, they make a profit on the difference between the original 2 prices. The same thing applies to betting arbitrage, typically on sporting events.

The advent of online betting sites meant that the punter could suddenly check prices at a multitude of different locations very quickly, and open bets at those that had ’slipped’ out of line. By exploiting the inefficiencies of some brokers, a win can therefore be guaranteed. Sometimes, the differences are deliberate. Each online betting site has to maintain it’s own ‘book’, and it would be a strange world indeed if they all had the same number of punters, all betting the same way and the same amount, meaning they all had to offer the same odds!

So how does 100% winners, no risk sound? Groovy, huh? But there are, of course, problems. The main problem is the size of the account you need to make a useful profit. The difference between the odds offered by 2 bookies, and exploited by an arbitrageur, may only amount to a fraction of a percent, meaning that you may have to wager several thousand dollars to win 5 bucks. Nothing wrong with that, you think? Not if the bet is 100% guaranteed? But what about if thru the vagaries of the internet, you manage to get one side of the bet on at the right odds, but not the other? You are left holding a LARGE position. Also, accounts of this size are viewed with some suspicion by the bookies - they will want to know that you aren’t (for example) money laundering.

So ok, you know the risks, but how does it actually work? Let’s go back to the US election between Bush and that Herman Munster guy, the Democrat fella with the long face (Kerry? Curry?). As you recall, it was close. No one knew for sure which way it would go. But what you could have done is put on a bet with UK bookie Coral that Kerry would win, and the odds they would give you would have been 6/4 (i.e. a US 1.5 - bet $800, return $2,000).

At the same time, your fave US bookie might have given you odds of 6/4 on Bush! That means if you took both bets, you are betting (risking) $1,600, but will win $2,000 WHATEVER the result! Easy money or what? Bank a cool $400 for nothing.

How often does this happen? Quite a lot. For example, in a boxing match, the US champ will, of course be favored by the US bookies, but the UK challenger will be top bet at the UK bookies. Simply exploit the difference. It works even within the US too - a Varsity football match, for example, may find the out of state team offering you an opportunity to arbitrage within the home team state depending on the demographics of the customers using two US online bookies.

Generally, you can bet risk free on any sporting event with either 2 or 3 outcomes, such as Football, Baseball, Boxing, Basketball, Tennis, Soccer, Golf, Snooker, Cricket, Hockey, Ice Hockey and Darts. Are the odds always as good as in the example? No. Usually the difference will be small. That is why you need large accounts.

Enjoy!

Big East Football: A Big Folly?

The Big East Football Conference is in the midst of experiencing its biggest changes since its founding in 1991. Gone are perennial powers Miami, Virginia Tech, and Boston College as well as league doormat, Temple. New to the conference are Louisville, Cincinnati, and South Florida. Some are calling the changes one big folly; while others believe that the conference will shake off its losses and move forward stronger and wiser.

Three letters have hurt the Big East Conference over the past few years. They are: A-C-C. ACC, as in Atlantic Coast Conference, who lured and then persuaded three Big East schools to make the leap over to the ACC. For the Big East, the three schools represented the league’s top football powers as well as two high performing Men’s Basketball squads: Boston College and Miami. In this age of lucrative television contracts and super conferences the three defecting schools took the money and ran.

Purists were left howling by the departures and at the ACC’s trolling of the Big East Conference. Some suggested lawsuits, while others stated that there was no legal obligation for the schools to stay.

Once it was confirmed that the three departing schools would leave, the Big East Conference was faced with a dilemma that could only undermine its ability to not only thrive, but to survive. It had previously been decided that Temple would be forced out as their program did not measure up to Big East Conference standards, or so it has been said. Still, Temple was not invited back and the Big East began to look elsewhere for schools to fill their depleted ranks. So, the Big East turned to the Conference USA.

Louisville, Cincinnati, and South Florida - along with Marquette who doesn’t play football - were all persuaded to leave Conference USA for the Big East. For some, this is where the folly begins.

Do the three new schools measure up to the programs which they are replacing? Absolutely not. Louisville comes closest and is likely nearly equal to Boston College in strength, but their football program does not compare to either Virginia Tech or Miami. Cincinnati compares much more favorably to the departed Temple team, while South Florida is a new Division 1-A program and was only added to replace Miami as the league’s warm weather school. Just kidding…I think.

The remaining conference schools are Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, and West Virginia. West Virginia is the current conference leader while Rutgers is taking advantage of a weakened conference and also sitting near the top. The remaining schools are rebuilding, making the Big East Conference extra weak this year.

The pundits and prognosticators know that the Big East is reeling and they understand that there is no guarantee that the present league configuration will produce football programs on the level of the dearly departed members. In my opinion, give the conference two or three years and you may find that with just a couple of years of excellent recruiting new leaders will emerge. Perhaps now is the time for Rutgers, Louisville, and South Florida to step it up a notch or two, thereby ensuring valuable television rights and lucrative bowl bids for the conference.
