Blinds 400/800 200 ante, $200k minimum buy-in On a the newest batch of High Stakes Poker, and probably the best ever, the gamblers are getting younger while the old school player’s seem to be tightening up (except maybe Eli Elezra)..This is a pleasure to watch and is a good break from constant online poker
For the young players, Tom Dwan, Peter Eastgate, and Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies make their first appearances at the casino; two internet phenoms and the WSOP main event winner. Though Ziigmund is known as an action cash player playing poker online, he was pretty timid and quiet at the table.
Eli and Doyle are upset with the amount of time Dwan was taking to complete his action. Dwan retorts, saying that he probably takes no more time per dollar that he puts into the pot than anyone else. Basically, he’s telling the players, ‘look, I’m in a lot of hands, I’m giving action, I’m creating action, I’m risking a lot more money than a lot of players who are sitting back and folding, so let me take some time.” And he is absolutely justified.
There were a few very interesting hands. One hand was raised up by Eastgate with A,6 of hearts and he gets 3 callers. Dwan called with 6,7 clubs.
Doyle also has shown that he’s been slow playing big pairs. Early on with KK he made a 3x opener for $2500 and played a small pot. Later on he flat called Negreanu’s opening raise and proceeded to check call Elezra on a j,5,5,4,2 board for nearly $100k.
Unfortunately, Barry Greenstein also tried to play his AA similarly. In early position, UTG, he bet $2500 and the entire table called his bet. The table saw an 8-way flop of 2,10,2.
Greenstein was sitting with about 230k behind, about 300x big blind. Eastgate checked in 1st position. Barry led out at this flop for $10,000 and Dwan automatically raised to 37,300.
Eastgate calls with 2,4 and Barry calls. On Tips From the Bear, Greenstein says that he is basically calling this $27,300 more in hopes of hitting one of the two remaining aces. He was actually thinking of folding, but decided that even though he was not getting appropriate odds, 27k wasn’t too large a sum compared to the three player’s stack sizes. He also thought that Dwan could definitely be making a play.
Turn is the 7d. This blanks everybody. Eastgate and Greenstein both checked, and Dwan made it $104,200.
