Vitamin C May Improve Smokers’ Blood Circulation

A dose of vitamin C may give a quick boost to the poorer-than-average blood circulation seen in healthy young smokers, a study suggests.
The study of 25 healthy men found that although smokers initially showed poorer results on a test of blood flow to the heart that changed after they took a large dose 2 grams of vitamin C.

Shortly after taking the vitamin, the 13 smokers showed blood circulation on par with that of the 12 non-smokers, according to findings published in a leading heart journal.

However, lest smokers think they can undo heart damage by chasing a cigarette with a vitamin C pill, the researchers say their findings underline the dangers of smoking.

Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant, a substance that helps clear the body of cell-damaging molecules called oxygen free radicals. Because of this, it’s thought that the vitamin may counter the “oxidative stress” that smoking puts on the lining of the blood vessels a mechanism by which smoking leads to artery disease.

The new study looked at the effect of oral vitamin C on coronary flow velocity reserve (CFVR), a measure of how well blood flow speeds up to help the heart when it’s under high demands. Past research has shown that smokers show poorer blood-vessel dilation in response to blood flow, and have a diminished CFVR.

The research team used a non-invasive ultrasound technique to measure CFVR in smokers and non-smokers, before and after they took vitamin C.
They found that before taking the vitamin, smokers had a lower CFVR than non-smokers did. Two and four hours after the dose of vitamin C, however, smokers’ average CFVR was “restored” to a more-normal level.

Though the men in the study were given a large dose of vitamin C, researchers pointed out that it’s probably useless to take doses beyond 200 milligrams, because the body will excrete the excess.

Moreover, it’s not clear that loading up on vitamin C can benefit smokers. Some trials have found that taking C supplements does not improve smokers’ blood vessel function, at least in the short term.

Researchers said further, large-scale trials should look at whether daily vitamin C supplements cut smokers’ long-term risk of coronary artery disease.

Know Your Bodybuilding Supplement - Ecdysterone

Ecdysterone is a powerful compound that can help to maximise your genetic potential to build muscle. It exists in the herbs Rhaponticium and Cyanatis Vaga. Although it has been known about for many years the expense associated with its extraction meant it was not viable for commercial production. Recent advancements in extraction technology, through in-vitrio cultivation, have made wholesale production possible.

Ecdysterone has been subjected to over 50 studies with the following major findings:

1. It increases lean muscle mass.

2. It increases endurance.

3. It stimulates metabolism.

4. It decreases blood sugar levels.

5. It reduces fatty tissue.

6. It prevents loss of muscle mass and promotes growth of muscle fibers.

7. It is suitable for both men and women and has no known side effects.

Ecdysterone seems to create a kind muscle building environment in the body by maintaining a positive nitrogen balance and by increasing protein synthesis. The recommended dose for Ecdysterone is 80-120 mg per day although dosages of up to 600 mg per day can be safely taken.

Answering the Critics

Exerts from communications from Chet.

Chuck, if you’re eating any animal products at all, you’re not following the Genesis 1:29, the Hallelujah Diet, or the Sheltonian Natural Hygiene diet.

I think a good, clean, predominantly plant-based diet is great, but human beings also have to have some foods from the animal kingdom for long-term health.

I take it your version of the Hallelujah/Hygiene diet includes some animal foods like organic eggs? If that’s the case, good…. you’re teaching truth.

Although I know a lot of people who claim to be strictly following the Hallelujah Diet or Sheltonian Natural Hygiene diet, I also know that if they are pressed to tell the whole truth, they all admit to having “occasional” animal foods, which certainly makes sense since human beings are designed to eat clean foods from both plant and animal kingdoms. That’s why there’s never been a single culture on earth that was strictly vegan.

I’ve been researching this question since 1993, and in all those years I’ve never found any evidence of a 100% vegan society or culture in the whole history of human kind. That’s a simple matter of historical and sociological fact that can be verified.

Dr. Campbell has never documented a totally vegan society or even, near as I can tell, a 100% vegan group within the Chinese society, though he did study a number of groups who were so poor they had minimal animal foods for periods of time.

Regarding Dr. Campbell’s overall study, I’d suggest that you do more reading. He has not produced a study that is respected and cited by serious professionals in the nutritional field. My wife, a very serious researcher, has questioned Dr. Campbell’s research assistant about the proteins mentioned in his study, and the assistant was not helpful, at all. This caused us grave concerns as to the truth of what he was presenting and concluding.

Chuck, to deny that human beings are opportunistic omnivores who require foods from both plant and animal kingdoms is to deny reality. As far as I’m concerned, you can’t be a legitimate truth seeker if your mind is closed to evidence. And if you’re holding yourself up as an authority, then you owe it to the people who take your word as truth to tell them the whole truth.

My answer;

Dear Brother Chet

You seem to see only what you want to see and overlook anything that goes against what you chose to believe. There is no way that you can verify that there has never been a society that was totally vegan. Sorry.

Dr Campbell did document in his book that there were areas of China where no animal products were consumed. Also that there were areas where only very small amounts were used more as flavoring. As well as areas that eat a western style diet.

I have heard him speak and he confirmed this fact.

Of course his study is not respected by mainstream, so called scientists. They would have to admit that they were wrong. That would undermine their entire world view and every thing they teach. They would have to accept that they are the cause of countless pain, suffering and death. Human nature keeps them from doing this, just like it clouds your thinking.

Yes you are wasting your time if you are trying to convince me that everything I have learned about human physiology is wrong. Pigs are the only true omnivores. They produce many more enzymes for digestion of a wide variety of foods.

We humans don’t product Uri-case. This enzyme is necessary to digest the Uric acid in animal products. Without it we cannot deal with the high levels of Uric acid in these foods. Uric acid wrecks havoc on our bodies. We were designed for a 5% protein diet. Only a plant based diet gives us a 5% protein level.

While it has been demonstrated that few problems occur if we consume less that 4 oz of animal products per day, many people, me included have become allergic to animal protein and react quickly if we get very much in our diet. Even 4 oz/day several days in a row will cause arthritis type pain and other health challenges.

You say that “human beings are opportunistic omnivores” that is true as far as it goes. However to say that just because people eat meat to survive when there is little else to eat, does not therefore mean that their bodies require meat to survive.

Natural Hygiene teaches that we were designed for a 100% raw plant food diet. However it also teaches that if you are not able to resist animal products that you should stay under 4oz. per day and combine them properly to minimize their negative effects. That means that animal products should be eaten with a raw salad with no starchy foods. Is that the way you eat your meat?

To say that the entire system is a fraud or that the people who teach it are teaching heresy because they teach one thing and do another is wrong.

I am the only one in my family who eats the way I choose to eat. My wife now eats more fruit and vegetables than she once did, but will not give up her small amount of toxic fare. I do not judge her for it. I love her and try to set a good example. It is hard when so much toxic things are in front of me all the time.

My wife makes potato salad a few times a year with eggs in it. So Yes I eat the potato salad. When I go to a restaurant and have a salad I often have potato salad if it is available. I like potato salad but my body does not like it. If I have that much animal products in a week I only have minor evidence of the fact, that I deviated from the ideal. The fact that I had only minor evidence of an impact on my health does not make it OK.

If I have a little cheese on my salad the next day, and perhaps a veggie pizza the next and a little something else the next I soon have severe arthritis pain in the last place I was injured.

Personally I praise the Lord that my body chooses to send the toxins to my joints. Many people never know until it is too late that they have done much harm. I quickly feel it with sharp pain in my neck or my knees or some other joint.

No Chet, you will have no luck convincing me that I need the pain of arthritis. It just hurts too much.

Chet do you eat your meat raw? If not you cannot digest it. Cooking destroys the food enzymes that could help you digest flesh foods. We don’t have strong enough acid or any enzymes to digest meat. If you cook it all you have is deranged protein that is toxic to the body. Eggs are not any different.

True omnivores produce enzymes to aid in the digestion of the raw animal products they eat. If you give them or carnivorous animals a steady diet of cooked animal products, they soon get the same diseases we humans do. Cooking deranges the proteins and makes a toxic stew that overwhelms the bodies ability to eliminate those toxins. The result is that it has to either store them or increase, beyond normal, its efforts to eliminate the extra toxins. To deny this can only lead to disaster.

Do you get your milk products from sources that provide you raw milk products. Pasteurized milk has no value to any human over the age of 3 years. We are supposed to be weaned by then. We stop producing the enzymes we need to digest milk by then. If it is pasteurized the food enzymes in the milk cannot aid your digestion, so all you have is a high protein product that you have no use for, with a lot of empty calories loaded with toxic inorganic minerals, and added toxic chemicals.

If you judge the system as false because some of its leaders occasionally slip and eat something that they know they should not eat, and then assume that they are teaching falsehood because they don’t practice what they preach is the height of folly.

I will pray for you Chet.

I perceive that you are an angry man, that you feel that you have been wronged. I feel that you are lashing out in the only way you can, by accusing those who you are working so hard to put down, of teaching falsehood. I pray that one day you will see that you are doing harm to yourself and to those who listen to you.

Natural Hygiene stands on well established fact, Human physiology, and natural Law. The evidence is overwhelming. To deny this does not make you right.

By the way, Dr Donaldson confirmed that he based his statements that the diet was lacking in sufficient nutrients on the published RDA’s

It has been known for many years that the RDA’s are at least double what we really need. In their own literature the government states that they took what they guessed we needed and doubled it to give a margin of safety. When that is taken into account the vegan, Genesis 1:29 diet, has more than enough of every nutrient.

I Love you in Christ. May God Bless you Chet.

Your servant,

Chuck

Whole Grain Cereals

If you`ve been to the grocery store lately you probably have noticed the new trend going on with breakfast cereals. Many of your favorite cereals have switched to whole grain wheat as the main ingredient. Are these cereals good for you or is this just another gimmick used by companies to sell more of their product? I am going to explain some of the positives and negatives associated with the “healthy cereals” you have recently been eating. I am also going to give you some examples of the different marketing techniques used by cereal manufactures to sell more of their product to the consumer.

In the past couple of years cold cereal has been given the reputation of being unhealthy. Since most cereals contain high amounts of sugar, most bodybuilders try keeping away from it for a couple of reasons. The sugar can make you even more hungry and you could end up eating more than your body requires. It is also considered a high G.I. carb source which can spike your insulin levels rapidly, leaving your body feeling low on energy. Now that cereal companies have switched to whole grain, it leaves you wondering if it`s actually a good part of a trainee`s diet.

Many cereals such as Frosted Mini Wheats and Wheaties have been around for years. Most of these cereals also contain a decent amount of fiber which helps with digestion and also makes you feel full faster. People always considered these as a healthy part of your breakfast so why wouldn`t the new whole grain cereals be considered a good source of carbohydrates as well?

Will all of your favorite cereals switch to whole grain wheat or is this just another trick used by cereal companies to sell more of their product to us? Only time will tell but we also must remember the different marketing techniques these companies have used in the past. A good example is when they state the cereal is low in fat and people start to think they can eat however much of it they want and not gain any fat. People don`t realize that the sugar in these cereals is just as bad for you as saturated fat. They also make you believe that their product is low in calories. If you look on the label you will notice it does have a low amount of calories but the serving size is less than a cup.

If you want to start eating cereal you must make sure the words “whole grain wheat” are the first three words on the list of ingredients or you will be doing yourself more harm than good. I love cereal and like the fact that I can eat a bowl of my favorite brand without feeling guilty afterwards. Portion control is crucial. You must have the discipline to control how much you eat no matter how healthy you think it is. If your having to much trouble with a good thing then you need to accept the fact that your body doesn`t respond well to a certain food. If you have that discipline needed to control your portion sizes then these new whole grain wheat cereals are for you. Until next time. Cya

Basic Meal & Menu Planning

As a basis for meals and menu planning, refer to the pyramid information mentioned earlier to make sure you have the basic food requirements met for all family members. Then cross check and plan by looking over basic food categories to target healthy foods to fit the lifestyles and health of everyone. For example, if someone has depression, add some foods mentioned above to his or her dietary plans that aid in the healing and prevention of depression.

Meal planning also depends upon several factors like the number of people eating, meal times, special dietary concerns, budget, available foods, recipes on hand and likes and dislikes of everyone who will be eating. Begin by choosing foods and recipes that you like and know how to prepare well and that fit into everyone•s dietary plans. If one or more people have special needs, like diabetics, plan ahead for substitutions either in the food preparation or food substitution for that individual or for those individuals.

There are a few things to note when making meal choices and menu planning. First, some foods may be advertised a certain way, but that doesn•t mean you can•t experiment. For instance, eggs and sausage can be served for dinner, not just breakfast. And waffles can be made from healthy wheat grains and eaten for lunch with fresh fruits instead of sugary syrup and heavy butter for breakfast.

Add variety, too. Have other family members jump in and prepare meals some nights and on weekends. Kids enjoy making macaroni and cheese, so host mac-n-cheese night on Wednesdays, for example. Then alternate different vegetable combinations, colors and textures to vary the menu on a weekly basis (no need to let boredom take over on Wednesdays with the same routine!)

To help with family food budget concerns, clip coupons from newspapers, weekend inserts, and any place you can find them. Downloaded coupons from the Internet to save money, too, from places like CoolSavings.com and CouponCart.com. RefundingMakesCents offers an affordable subscription to a neat print magazine for coupon deals, trades and lots more, with a secret code to their website for Internet coupon-codes for lots of online companies like Amazon.com (cookware) and Barnes and Noble (cookbooks).

Also note seasonal food selections for savings. Create menus and meals based upon what•s on special that week or month. Hint: stock up and store or freeze special-priced items and family favorites when possible and storage room and the budget allows. But don•t over do it. With convenience stores and supermarkets for food shopping in practically every neighborhood anymore, there is no need to hoard. An old saying, ‘Haste makes waste” might apply if you see a great buy, purchase multiple items, then let them become outdated and have to toss them out.

One fun way to save is by trading coupons and working out food deals with friends, family, neighbors, your church group and anyone else who•d like to join in. Food cooperatives and farm markets available in your area may offer special pricing to groups or large purchases. So team up for better purchasing power and split everything up between group members. If you•re not into that much organization, go one-on-one with a neighbor, other friend or relative. Buy a huge bag of potatoes, onions, oats, and / or other foods, then share.

Here is one special item to note with regards to dietary planning. It•s unfortunate, but fast foods, especially those that are high in fat content (fried, greasy foods), are often cheaper than good, healthy food choices. For example, lean beef costs more than high-fat beef; cereals high in nutritional value are often priced much higher than the low-cost, sugary brand names. And low income and homeless people are particularly victims of this situation, many times needing to turn to the less healthier food choices for survival. So whenever possible, your plans might want to include donating a portion to homeless shelters and churches who would probably be more than willing to take extras off your hands.

Healing With Whole Foods - Defining Health By Relationships

Annemarie Colbin, in her book, Food and Healing, presents a chapter on altering diet to combat specific conditions. Her recommendations are based on her own experience as a student of macrobiotics and health food, and a teacher of natural healing and balanced eating. As well as her observations of those whom she treated in consultations, and the transformations of her students over the years. Despite her background in macrobiotics and vegetarianism, Annemarie isn’t dogmatic about food - she recognizes that what is healing for one person, during a particular period of their life, may not be healing for others, or even for that same person at different stages of their life.

She takes as her cue the fact that regular foods have been used for their medicinal value in most traditional cultures. The underlying principle is one of restoring balance. Illness is considered a state of imbalance within the body. And like in homeopathy, she believes that remedies can cause similar symptoms to that which they cure - if the symptoms they can cure are not present, and they are taken in sufficient quantity. So, the remedy should no longer be taken once the symptoms of imbalance, the illness or condition, disappears. Otherwise, the remedy may in fact cause similar symptoms to reappear. If this is the case, the remedy should not be taken again, as the remedies are (according to this principle), causing the new symptoms. Serious medical conditions she does not rely on food cures for. She recognizes that Western medicine also has its place. But food being what it is, can also be a useful healing adjunct in those situations.

One thing that impressed her was food’s ability to alter our metabolism quickly. She described this epiphany after cooking a meal for some South American friends, who were used to a diet that was high in protein and fats. When they ate the meal prepared by her, which was high in complex carbohydrates like whole grains and legumes, and low in fat, sugar (for dessert), and low in protein, they found alcohol affected them in a way it usually didn’t. The same amount they normally drank, which did not make them drunk with their usual fare, got them quite tipsy on hers. She observed from this that alcohol, being expansive in nature, balanced out the highly contractive protein and fat they normally ate. These ideas, of particular foods having an expansive or contractive nature, is one that she learnt from the Oriental healing systems she studied.

This approach touches on a core difference between Western understanding of both food, and medicine, and traditional Chinese medicine’s (TCM). TCM has as its conceptual underpinning, the study of relationships between things. Western approaches, to both nutrition and medicine, are based on a reductionist approach. They explore isolated nutrients, diseases that are studied under the microscope, with a symptom that then suggests possible causes, defined within a narrow and static frame. Ted Kaptchuk illustrates this when he describes how, when he was studying TCM in Macao, one of his teachers was talking about shingles. His teacher described how shingles on the face was different to shingles elsewhere, say, on the trunk. The reason behind this was that “the Chinese view demanded another perspective - seeing the relationship of the symptom to the whole body”. (Kaptchuk) he goes on to say: “The question of cause and effect is always secondary to the overall pattern…The total configurations, the patterns of disharmony, provide the framework for treatment.” (Kaptchuk)

Zma Fuel

Zma is a unique combination of vitamins and minerals that impact positively on athletic performance. Zma is available in supplement form, and zma is readily absorbed by the system. Zma fuel utilizes zinc monomethionine, magnesium aspartate and B6 combined. Zma is an anabolic mineral formula scientifically designed, and zma contains only natural products.

The synergistic combination of zinc and magnesium in zma is proven to enhance healthy hormone production, resulting in increased strength and muscle power. Clinical tests reveal that the ingredients in zma fuel can increase endurance and testosterone levels, as well as promote a restful sleep which is important for athletes. Zma can be taken before bedtime, resulting in a deeper and more peaceful sleep. With zma intake the muscle cramping usually associated with sport is reduced considerably, when supplementing the diet with zma fuel.

Zma enhances and improves the body’s healing ability, a benefit found in zma fuel supplements. Zma users can expect a 2.5 times greater muscle strength on average. This varies, and the more physically strong you are before taking zma supplements, the better your results on zma fuel will be. A study conducted on a group of college football players which monitored the effects of zma on the system, proved very interesting.

The football players taking zma fuel supplements combined with magnesium aspartate showed an increase of free testosterone levels by 43% more than the group on placebos! The muscle power of the players using zma increased 250% more than those who didn’t use a zma fuel supplement. There is impressive scientific evidence behind zma fuel and scores of clinical tests have been conducted on zma. Results show that zma really does work and zma fuel lives up to its claims.

Zinc is a micro mineral which is involved with hormone actions including growth hormones, estrogen, insulin and testosterone. The zinc found in zma is necessary for many enzymatic actions. Those involved in physical fitness have a greater need for zinc and can replenish it with zma fuel. As it can be taken by men or women and has no adverse side effects, zma can benefit all athletes including beginners.

The B6 vitamin (pyridoxine) present in zma is involved with protein synthesis. In coenzyme form, the B6 vitamin in zma is involved with many enzymes as well as the metabolism of amino acids. Zma with B6 can free up carbohydrate energies and zma will also lessen the actions of cortisol and other catabolic steroids. The testosterone to cortisol ratio is boosted by zma fuel’s B6, resulting in increased muscle strength.

Because zinc and magnesium are easily depleted from the body, supplementing with zma can elevate these testosterone levels. Athletic studies show that many athletes have a zinc deficiency, which can be corrected by taking zma. After participating in regular and intense exercise, zinc and magnesium levels decrease considerably. This deficiency results in a loss of strength and libido, easily replaced with zma.
