Addressing the Canny Investor

Got Cravings? Consider the Yin and Yang of Your Food

It’s 10 a.m., you’re at work, and you’re bored. The bagel you had for breakfast earlier just wasn’t that satisfying, and the woman in the cube next to yours has a bowl of Hershey kisses on her desk. You walk by the chocolates a few times, and finally just go ahead and grab a few. At lunchtime you pick up a deli sandwich that comes with a bag of potato chips and a brownie, and you eat your lunch while you answer emails. A few hours later you start falling asleep at your desk. You’re craving sweets, and a trip to the vending machine for a Snickers bar helps you stay awake and finish up your day. By the time you make your way through the evening rush hour and back home, you’re feeling “road rage,” and you want something to eat NOW. So you pour yourself a bowl of cereal and head over to the couch to watch your favorite TV show.

If you can relate to this scenario, you are not alone. Most Americans live their lives this way - jumping from craving to craving, feeling completely out of control with what they eat. There is, however, an easy way to control your cravings. There is a way of eating in which you are in charge of choosing your foods, instead of feeling like the food is choosing you!

People often feel badly about their cravings. They see them as a sign of weakness, or they think their bodies are “out of whack.” Why else would you cave in to a bag of chocolate chip cookies, when you were able to resist them all week?

Actually, your body is very smart. It always knows exactly what to do. For example, your heart never misses a beat. Your lungs expand and contract as needed. When you are hot, you sweat, and when you are cold, you shiver. Your body knows what it needs to do and when it needs to do it.

So likewise, if your body is craving a certain food, there is probably a reason for it! Your craving is a sign of an underlying imbalance. It is a solution, not a problem. It is your body’s way of telling you that it needs something. Your job, then, is to be somewhat of a “food detective” - to figure out what the craving is really all about.

There are many reasons your body might need something and send you a craving. One perspective on food cravings uses the concepts of “yin” and “yang.” Yin and yang simply refer to “complimentary but opposite forces.” We see examples of yin and yang all the time in our every day life - down and up, in and out, white and black, female and male, cold and hot, night and day. Things in life that are opposite yet complement one another.

Yin and yang can be applied to food as well. In this application, “yin” refers to foods that create short-term feelings of lightness, happiness, and satisfaction. Yin foods cause an elevation of the neurotransmitter serotonin in your brain, leading to feelings of well being, followed by a sharp decline and feelings of weakness and emptiness. The predominate component of yin foods is white sugar. Other yin foods include white flour, white rice, alcohol, juice, caffeine, fats, and oils.

At the other end of the spectrum are yang foods. Yang foods create short-term feelings of strength and increased physical and mental power. They include salt and animal foods that are rich in protein, such as red meat, eggs, and cheese. Yang foods cause an elevation in the neurotransmitter dopamine, causing one to feel very alert and aggressive, followed by feelings of sluggishness and bloat.

Your body always tries to maintain balance. If you eat lots of yin, you will seek yang. If you eat lots of yang, you will seek yin. For example, after eating a meal rich in extreme yang foods such as a steak, baked potato with sour cream, and buttered vegetables you may feel heavy and blocked. You might seek something to help you feel light and unblocked, such as a sweet dessert and coffee.

The key, then, to decreasing food cravings, is to eat foods that are neither extremely yin nor extremely yang. Imagine there is a continuum of foods between the extreme yin and extreme yang foods. Foods that fall in the middle of the yin-yang continuum include vegetables, grains, nuts, and legumes. Fruit is also near the middle, though slightly yin, whereas fish and poultry are slightly yang.

Incidentally, the concepts of yin and yang can be used to describe your day or your moods. If someone is being very yin, they are kicking back, relaxing, daydreaming, and napping. An example of being yang is when someone gets mad at the person who just cut in front of them in traffic. Yin and yang can explain why after a day of watching TV (yin), you might not feel like speaking in front of a group (yang), and why at the end of a long, difficult day at work (yang), you might crave a drink (yin)!

If you experience cravings throughout your day, consider what you are eating and where those foods fall on the yin-yang continuum. The Standard American Diet (SAD) is dominated by extreme yin and extreme yang foods, such as sugar, white flour, salt, and red meat. We learn to eat this way at a young age, and it becomes commonplace. Eating these types of foods may be causing you to crave more food later on, without you even being aware of it! Also consider what experiences you have during your day, and how those experiences might cause you to feel “yin” or “yang,” thereby leading you to crave certain foods. By carefully paying attention, and by eating foods primarily in the middle of the yin-yang continuum, you CAN get control of your cravings once and for all!

Glyconutrients - The Next Household Word?

Glyconutrients are considered by top doctors and scientists as the most important discovery in recent medical history relating to human health and wellness. Glyconutrients, a grouping of eight ‘biological’ sugars, are found in one nutrient complex called Ambrotose. They are not vitamins, minerals, herbals, homeopathics or enzymes. They are a class all to themselves. Glyconutrient essentially means ’sweet nutrient.’ They are supplements derived from nature that have been formulated based on a new understanding in biochemistry of how our bodies maintain health at the
cellular level. This new discovery is as significant as the
discovery of the role of vitamins, essential fatty acids,
and amino acids in how the body functions.

Glyconutrients are digested by the body and provide the
sugars and other glycoforms such as lipids and proteins that enable proper cell-to-cell communication, a process
essential for proper human body functioning and defense
through the immune system. Glyconutrients form an essential part of nutrition required by our body, however, are inadequate in a majority of the foods we consume.

Studies have found that glyconutrients have the ability to
ease the pains brought on by inflammation. They also play a major role in the basic functionings of the human body. Glyconutrients feed the mechanism through which every cell of the human body recognizes and communicates with other cells. When glyconutrients are used with chemotherapy, surgery or radiation it has been observed that they help in lessening the side effects of these treatments. Glyconutrients also help the body to recover and heal more quickly if used along with these treatments.

Studies have shown that eight simple dietary sugars are
lacking in a modern standard diet. These eight dietary
sugars are vital for the basic functioning of our body. The
sugars join with fats and proteins in order to create
glycoforms that coat the surface of nearly all cells in our
body. Glycoforms work as cellular identification molecules,
which communicate the messages of our bodily needs and are the basis for the functioning of maintaining good health.

Sugars that have been found in glyconutrients deal with the functioning of the brain and the nervous system of the body. They also help the body to handle cholesterol and fats, present in all people, by lowering the triglycerides and lipoproteins also known as LLP and raising the good cholesterol known as HDL.

The lack of these essential sugars in our modern day
standard diet has been attributed to many factors. An
increase in the level of pollution combined with the
declining nutritional value of our soil and eating habits
has led to a decline in these sugar levels. Taking
glyconutrient supplements in our diet is the only answer to provide our body with this essential, possibly missing
nutrient.

As important as they are, 99% of the world has never heard the term glyconutrients before. But on October 15, 2005, this word will enter the public consciousness and lexicon. Los Angeles, California, will host the first World Wide AIDS Concert to raise money to supply glyconutrients for children in Africa with AIDS.

U2 and the Dave Matthews Band will be the performers in this televised concert. Other concerts will follow at impressive locations around the world, including the Great Wall of China.

Mannatech, Inc. recently received a US patent on the nutritional complex Ambrotose that contains all eight essential glyconutrients.

Beginning an Alkaline Diet: The Basic Principles - Start Alkalizing Today!

Each and every person living in the UK is facing a myriad of health and lifestyle challenges every day.

We are constantly being fed new information about what is healthy and what is unhealthy while thousands of us try to deal with problems ranging from obesity to fatigue to life threatening diseases.

The alkalarian approach to diet offers a simple, basic understanding of what causes the body to become ‘out of balance’. Through what has become the typical Western diet largely based around meat, dairy, sugars, alcohol, saturated fats and caffeine, millions of us have created a hostile, acidic environment within our bodies.

The pH level of our internal fluids affects every living cell in our bodies and the effect that over-acidification can have upon the health of our bodies is immense, with a chronically over acidic pH creating an extremely negative environment which affects all cellular functions from the beatings of the heart to the neural workings of the brain.

When our pH level is unbalanced, almost any area of our bodies can be negatively affected creating results such as cancer, heart disease, obesity, weight problems, allergies, fatigue and premature aging as well as problems with our nervous system, cardiovascular system and muscles.

Where to Start

To begin to alkalise it is important to start consuming alkalising foods and drinks while eliminating acidifying foods and drinks from your diet. As a rough guide you should try to include some of the following:

Foods that Alkalize:

  • Vegetables: Spinach, asparagus, broccoli, carrots, celery, cucumber, lettuce, courgette, cabbage, greens, swede, squash (summer, butternut, yellow etc), peppers, chili, tomato, onion, garlic, chickpeas, pinto beans, kidney beans, spring onion, root ginger
  • Salads: Lettuce, spinach, celery, cucumber, nuts (aside from peanuts and cashews), seeds, avocado, carrots etc.
  • Herbs & Spices: Basil, parsley, mint, coriander, ginger, cumin etc.
  • Essential Fats: Flax/Linseed, Evening Primrose, Olive Oil, Avocado Oil or an oil blend such as Udo’ Choice
  • Fruits: ONLY - Lemons, Lime, Grapefruit, Watermelon, Tomato, Avocado - all other fruits to be used quite sparingly
  • Grasses: Wheat, barley, kamut, lemon, shave etc.
  • Sprouts: Alfalfa, mung bean, broccoli, radish, wheat, lentil, fenugreek etc.
  • Dips and Sauces: Pesto, hummus, tahini, guacamole etc.

Foods that Acidify:

  • Sugar
  • Dairy Products
  • Meat (aside from occasional coldwater fish)
  • Caffeine
  • Tobacco
  • Wheat (aside from sprouts or wheatgrass)
  • Fruit (apart from those mentioned above)
  • Bad fats (saturated, transfatty acids, hydrogenated)
  • Junk/ Processed foods
  • Fizzy drinks
  • Peanuts and Cashews
  • Pasta and White Rice
  • Condiments

The most effective way to reverse the trend of over-acidification is to ‘cleanse’ the body of toxins and rapidly create an alkaline environment in which the body can heal itself. Cleansing is a natural, holistic method of healing in which the body detoxifies itself and regenerates healthy vibrant cells, effectively becoming more alkalized.

For some people, cleansing can put an individual one year ahead in the healing process!

This is a very brieif outline of the most important principles of an alkaline diet. We highly recommend you read both The pH Miracle and Fats that Heal, Fats that Kill to gain a full understanding of an alkaline lifestyle.

Dental Crowns - Potential Problems

Placing dental crowns requires specialized skills and techniques that are not usually taught in a basic dental curriculum. Dentists who are able to fit and place crowns for their patients have usually undertaken at least two years of additional coursework and training in cosmetic dentistry techniques. If your family dentist, who probably practices general dentistry, determines that you are in need of dental crowns, s/he will refer you to a specialist who has the skills and training for this procedures.

Living With Dental Crowns
Although they are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth, dental crowns differ from them in many significant respects - and you’ll need to make some adjustments accordingly.

In addition, dental crowns are prone to problems that are not an issue with natural teeth. While such problems are rare when dental crowns are properly done, they are known to happen. If you have dental crowns, here are some potential problems of which you should be aware.

Discomfort. Chances are good that a newly-crowned tooth will be especially sensitive to heat and cold; some pain when biting down may also be possible. This should ease over time; meanwhile, you may wish to use a toothpaste especially formulated for sensitive teeth. If pain when piting down persists, this may be an indication that the crown is set too high. This is a relatively minor adjustment however, and the dentist should be able to correct this quite easily.

Chipping. If your dental crowns are all-ceramic, they may be prone to chipping. Depending on how much of the surface is damaged, it may be easily repaired with a special type of composite resin formulated for this purpose, or it may require a complete replacement.

Loosening. When dental crowns are placed, the dentist uses a special type of bonding adhesive. On rare occasions, this adhesive may wash away, causing the crown to become loose. This is a potentially dangerous condition, as bacteria that causes plaque can slip in underneath the crown and attack the remaining tooth - and there will be little that can be done about it. Loose dental crowns ahould be treated professionally as soon as possible.

Loss. If a crown has been improperly placed or insufficient amounts of bonding materials were used, the crown may fall off altogether. Should this happen, call your dentist’s emergency number immediately. S/he will advise you as to the proper course of action to take until you can be seen (usually within 24 hours at most dental offices).

Allergies. This is usually an issue only for cases in which metals are used. Allergic reactions to porcelain, although known to happen, are extremely rare.

Discoloration. A dark line adjacent to the gum line sometime appears with the porcelain-fused-to-metal type of dental crowns. This is caused by the metal showing through the porcelain material. Although unsightly, it is not indicative of gum disease or tooth decay.

Avoiding Nutritionally Deficient Foods After Gastric Bypass

After WLS we must concentrate on eating nutrient rich food. Nutritionally void foods cannot be part of the regular diet after surgery because they can cause dumping, vomiting and/or weight gain. In addition, the body is taxed by the bypassed system and to put foods into it which are difficult to process and digest only taxes the body further keeping us from feeling optimum health.

In traditional dieting we learn to avoid “unhealthy” foods - those that tend to least resemble their original natural ingredients and have the most added refined and artificial additives. After gastric bypass we MUST avoid these foods, it’s not a suggestion - it is a way of life.

Top of the list of foods that must be avoided are “white foods” - white sugar, white flour and white fat. There are many foods that include all three items as primary ingredients including soft drinks, most breads, crackers, pasta, pastries and pastry fillings, cakes, frostings, margarine and bread spreads, jellies, sweets and candies, frozen dinners, hamburger and hotdog buns, snacks, doughnuts, pizzas, pies, candy bars, and cookiesall of which are common snacks and convenience foods. Indeed, many of these combine all three whites togetherwhite sugar, flour, and fat! Furthermore, these foods frequently contain artificial colors, artificial flavors, preservatives, texturizing and processing agents, and other additives that further detract from their nutritional stature and your health.

“White sugar” includes refined sugar cane or sugar beets having virtually all B vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other essential nutrients removed. Corn syrup is also a “white sugar,” made from processed cornstarch and essentially devoid of other nutrients.

“White flour,” analogously, is whole wheat flour minus its nutrient-packed wheat germ and fibrous bran. Nutritionally speaking, white flour a ghost-like shadow of its original whole grain.

“White fat” can include rendered animal lard, vegetable oils “hydrogenated” to make them hard at room temperature, and refined tropical fats such as cottonseed oil. Hydrogenation is a chemical process that transforms natural fats into more saturated “trans”-fatty acids that do not occur naturally and are strongly associated with cardiovascular disease.

Oregano: Nature’s Antibiotic and Antiseptic

Many of us sprinkle oregano on our pizza and stews without realizing its impressive healing powers. But oregano is much more than a flavorful herb. It contains three to 20 times more antioxidant activity than other herbs or fruit, and oregano’s mineral rich content supersedes that of milk, cheese or green vegetables in calcium, magnesium and potassium. Yet its most remarkable use is to safely wipe out upper respiratory infections including bronchitis, sinusitis, sore throats and other bacterial and viral ailments.

Why not just use an antibiotic? No one will argue that they have saved a multitude of lives over the years. But unfortunately, antibiotics have become overused and abused for colds, the flu and mild bacterial infections which could have been remedied otherwise. They are even prescribed for viral conditions, mostly because patients feel their doctor should prescribe a medicine and specifically ask for antibiotics. This has resulted in a large population of antibiotic-resistant people with chronic upper respiratory ailments whose symptoms continue to resurface. Rather than strengthen the immune system and heal the underlying problem, antibiotics further weaken the body.

Oregano is a nontoxic antibacterial and antiviral herb that does not kill human cells like antibiotics do. It also strengthens the immune system. Dr. Cass Ingram’s book The Cure Is in the Cupboard unveils oregano’s multiple practical uses, including its ability to safely kill every germ against which it has been tested and nine pathogens, including salmonella, E. coli, listeria, strep, pseudomonas and molds.

Best of all, there is no indication that using oregano oil or herb long-term causes any resistance since it attacks bacteria and viruses via a different mechanism and does not cause those bothersome and long-lasting negative side effects.

But don’t head for the cupboards yet. The form of oregano that contains the most health benefits and published research is the wild, mountain grown Oregano P73, which can be found in health food stores and on the Internet. Impressive scientific research exists on Oregacyn P73 and Oregamax, which contain the crushed wild oregano blend or Oil of Oregano. They have been shown to wipe out the human Coronavirus, which is responsible for 50 percent of colds, and to have powerful antifungal effects on Candida Albicans.

I personally grew resistant to the most powerful antibiotics due to years of returning bronchitis and sinus infections. Each year through high school and college, I was sure to go on at least three courses of antibiotics and suffered through miserable side effects. Fortunately, my current nutritional regimen, which includes Oregacyn at first sign of immune weakness or infection, has allowed me to avoid antibiotics for more than four years. Parents can use Oil of Oregano for their kids’ sore throats. Mix six drops in water and gargle, or apply directly for immediate pain relief and on-contact anti-microbial and anti-viral effects.

In addition, Oil of Oregano can be inhaled several times daily and placed under the tongue for immediate relief of sneeze attacks, sinus congestion and runny nose. For pneumonia, the oregano oil helps thin mucous, opens clogged lungs, reduces wheezing and has an anti-cough effect. The oil can be applied topically to the chest and taken internally for optimal healing.

What is the Cause?

The question most people think they need an answer to is what is the cause of their this or that? Many people pay it lip service, but what is cause really? Going with the bucket analogy, what is the cause of one of the symptoms or diseases not being covered by water, or being expressed? Could it be that water is leaking out of the bucket through the holes? Which hole is the “cause” of the symptoms or disease being expressed? That is kind of a trick question.

It is not just one hole that causes a symptom or disease to be expressed. All the holes lead to the decreased level of water. Or, said another way, there is not just one cause to any symptom or disease. In fact, everything you did or didn’t do up to that point in your life has some role in the symptoms or disease you are expressing. Most people are looking for a cause, and no one ever stopped to question if there even was only one cause . . . until now. The cause, if you really need to have one, is a lack of health.

To get people to immediately stop looking for the one cause that doesn’t exist would be tough. Because looking for the cause of something is so ingrained into our thinking, into our very way of automatic reaction, that stopping the never-ending quest for “cause” immediately is like expecting a huge semi truck to stop instantly, even though it is going down the highway at 70 miles per hour (120 km/h).

With one little change, two little words, the track that most people head down when looking for the cause would be much more effective. That is, switching one’s frame of mind from looking for the cause to looking for the major contributing factors, because some things contribute more to certain symptoms and disease than others. Some contribute more directly, other less directly. Switching to looking for contributing factors instead of the cause will make a quantum leap in how effective the treatment of the symptoms and disease becomes.

That is worth saying again, in BOLD. There is not one cause to anything. There are infinite amounts of contributing factors to the symptoms or disease being expressed. Some contributing factors have a bigger impact than others.

So if you continue to treat your symptoms and disease, look for the major contributing factors and eliminate them. I say this because often people say things like, I tried quitting eating sugar, and it didn’t work (so they eat sugar again) I tried quitting smoking and that didn’t work (so they are smoking again) I tried exercising and that didn’t work ( so they are not exercising anymore) etc. etc. People try one thing believing there is “one cause”. And if that one thing doesn’t work, they stop doing it or begin doing it again. It is about eliminating contributing factors.

If you continue to look for contributing factors you must also add to your health. No matter what you do, the only way to be permanently healthy is to add to your health. There is no way around this.

Some Fundamentals Of Web Design

The Internet is a pretty exciting place to learn a lot of different things. One could spend several months even several years just trying to figure out what part of the Internet as their favorite.

When I first started out on the Internet order to start out with the basics when the infrastructure, so web design was where I began my journey. When you learn how to build the websites you kind of get an insider look at how the web is stitched together.

In a lot of ways learning how the websites are built you have an easier time figuring out everything else.

Our member when I first got on the Internet and saw how websites seem to hold the power of Marvel, and intrigue, but most of all interactivity.

I knew when I started out that I was going to want to know how to build these websites that I was so intrigued by.

After only a few months to plan around the Internet I started looking for sites that would teach the web design. Within about a year I was building some of the most innovative websites and they’d ever seen.

It just goes to show that you never know what you’ll learn on the Internet they get in there and figure out what you like.

Your International Realty Market Place — Accomodated by The Property Index

Property Index is an online platform that gives buyers access to thousands of properties www.propertyindex.com. Property in Spain is currently booming so browse the range on offer at Property Index.

Even though the Property Index online service is a fairly young organisation, (they were registered only in March of 2007), they have achieved expert status very quickly. They’re a unbelievably unostentatious organisation devoted to looking after and guiding anyone who is intending to sell, buy, rent or let property across the world. Their avowal is to be of help to you to pinpoint just what you require fast and, furthermore, easily. Property can be located across the globe in our times, undoubtedly the choicest area being property for sale in Spain. It should really be easy as one-two-three to chart the splendid property for sale in Spain, one motivation for picking real estate here being properties you can purchase and the ripping opportunity of spending your life with this dynamic and keen populace.

It is one of the truly favored regions in our times, and considering the scenic beauty and sunshine surrounding you here, who could be wrong. Property in Spain is steeped in history, art and culture, this part of the world has a long tradition as a home to numerous sophisticated civilizations. Only 25 years ago you’d find a mere dribble of English people in search of property in Spain. Just ask anyone who has relocated to Spain and they are certain to back it up. Many people would label it a short-lived craze and others label it a that’s more or less an infatuation… Customers actually moving to this area will range from newly weds who are looking for a challenge to senior citizens who want to slow down and enjoy themselves.

There may be problems when attempting to purchase property in a foreign country — there will be hundreds of steps when planning, sightseeing or signing the documents. If you only miss one single minor procedure it can provoke overwhelming problems plus, critically, a failed investment. As you would assume with this fashionable location, property might well be extremely expensive in this destination which is plainly a result of the growing buyer demand. This notwithstanding, the real estate buyer is spoiled in such an area so rich in wonderful topography. It’s got almost all anyone may really hunger for, and plenty more.
